Mayerling - it may be dull, but it was beautifully danced!

This ballet is based on the 'Mayerling' incident (or scandal) from the Austrian Empire in the late 19th century. It concerns the antics and suicide of the crown prince. As ever at Covent Garden, it was danced beautifully, with exquisite costumes and scenery. But. As a drama it just couldn't capture me. I had no interest, connection or sympathy with the characters, and until a little more dramatics emerged later, the story was just slow and rather dull.
